    외젠 들라크루아

    외젠 들라크루아(Eugène Delacroix, 1798–1863)는 프랑스 낭만주의(French Romantic) 화가입니다.

    그의 라이벌이라고 불리는 장 오귀스트 도미니크 앵그르(Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, 1780-1867)는 신고전주의적 완벽주의(Neoclassical perfectionism)를 추구한 반면 들라크루아는 루벤스(Peter Paul Rubens, 1577-1640)와 베네치아 르네상스(Venetian Renaissance) 화가들로부터 영감을 받았습니다. 그림에서 윤곽선을 명확히 표현하거나, 주의 깊게 윤곽을 묘사하기 보다는 색채와 움직임을 강조하였습니다.

    극적이고 낭만적인 화풍으로 낭만주의 미술의 대표적인 화가로 이름을 올립니다. 하지만, 그의 작품은 낭만주의적인 특징만 있지는 않습니다. 

    그의 작품들은 초기 고전주의에서 바로크 회화, 그리고 낭만주의 회화의 특징들을 포함하고 있습니다. 그의 붓터치와 색채는 인상주의자 화가들(Impressionists)에게 영향을 줍니다. 이국적인 것에 대한 그의 열정은 상징주의 화가들에게 영감을 주었습니다.
