    시카고 미술관

    시카고 미술관은 메트로폴리탄 미술관(Metropolitan Museum of Art), 보스턴 미술관(Boston Museum of Fine Arts)과 더불어 미국의 3대 미술관 중 하나로 꼽히는 미술관입니다.

    클로드 모네(Claude Monet, 1840–1926)의 1882년 작품 '푸르빌의 절벽 위의 산책(The Cliff Walk at Pourville)'입니다. 

    모네는1882년 2월부터 4월까지 푸르빌(Pourville)에 머물렀는데 그 때 그린 그림입니다. 

    두 여인이 절벽 위에서 바다를 내려다 보고 있는데, 두 여인은 훗날 모네의 두 번째 아내가 되는 알리스 오세데(Alice Hoschedé, 1844-1911)의 두 딸 마르트(Marthe)와 블랑쉬(Blanche)로 추정된다고 합니다.

    하늘과 바다, 그리고 절벽 위의 풀들까지 모네 특유의 따뜻한 색체와 붓터치가 잘 나타난 그림입니다.

    가지치기한 나무(Têtards; Pollards) 또는 버드나무와 구름 사이로 햇살이 비치는 풍경(Landscape with Willows and Sun Shining Through the Clouds)이라고 이름 붙여진 이 그림은 빈센트가 1884년 3월 뉘넨(Nuenen)에서 완성한 소묘(drawing) 작품입니다.

    갈색 잉크의 펜(Pen and brown ink)으로 주로 그렸는데, 그 외에도 검은색 잉크의 펜(pen and black ink), 목탄(graphite), 목탄 프로타주(graphite frottage), 검은색 분필(black chalk) 등도 사용하였습니다.
