5 World-Famous Cities Patroised by Specific Deities 

테노치티틀란(Tenochtitlan)과 위칠로포치틀리(Huitzilopochtli)
테노치티틀란(Tenochtitlan)은 현재 멕시코시티(Mexico City)의 위치에 있던 도시로 아즈텍 왕국의 수도였습니다. 이곳의 수호신은 아즈텍 신화의 전쟁과 태양의 신인 위칠로포치틀리(Huitzilopochtli)였습니다. 아즈텍 제국의 중앙 신전인 템플로 마요르(Museo del Templo Mayor)가 있었으며, 이 신전은 전쟁의 신인 칠로포치틀리(Huitzilopochtli)와 비의 신인 트랄로크(Tlaloc)에 봉헌된 신전이었습니다.

바빌론(Babylon)과 마르두크(Marduk)
마르두크(Marduk) 또는 마르둑은 아무리족의 신으로 바빌로니아의 수호신이었는데, 바빌론이 번성하면서 바빌로니아 판테온의 주신이 되었습니다. 창조, 물, 농경, 정의 등을 관장합니다. 에사길라(Esagila)는 마르두크에게 봉헌된 신전이었습니다.

스리랑감(Srirangam)과 비슈누(Vishnu)
비슈누(Vishnu)는 힌두교 3대 신 중 하나로 다양한 화신(incarnations)의 형태로 존재합니다. 대홍수(catastrophic floods)로부터  세계를 보호하는 신이며, 인도 뿐만 아니라 세계의 많은 도시에서 비슈누 또는 그의 아바타를 수호신으로 숭배하고 있습니다. 인도 타밀나두 주 스리랑감(Srirangam, Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India)에 있는 스리랑가나스와미 사원(Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple)은 비슈누(Vishnu)의 한 형태인 랑가나타(Ranganatha)에게 봉헌된 사원입니다. 108개의 비슈누(Vishnu)와 락슈미(Lakshmi) 사원인 108 디비야 데삼(108 Divya Desams) 중에서도 가장 중요한 사원으로 꼽힙니다.

로마(Rome)와 유피테르(Jupiter)
로마 신화에서 최고의 신인 유피테르는 로마를 포함한 여러 도시의 수호자로 알려져 있습니다. 특히, 로마의 카피톨리노 언덕(Capitoline Hill)에 있는 신전은 유피테르 숭배의 중심지였습니다.

카트만두 계곡(Kathmandu Valley)과 탈레주 바와니(Taleju Bhawani)
카트만두 더르바르 광장(Kathmandu Durbar Square)에는  탈레주 바와니 사원(Taleju Bhawani Temple)이 있습니다. 강력한 여신인 탈레주 바와니(Taleju Bhawani)는 네팔의 말라 왕조(Malla Kings)의 수호신이자, 더르바르 광장의 수호신이며, 카트만두 계곡(Kathmandu Valley)의 수호신으로 알려져 있습니다.
