Vincent van Gogh (1887)

1886년 빈센트는 동생 테오가 있는 파리로 옵니다. 어둡던 그의 화풍은 파리에 있는 동안 인상주의와 일본 우키요에(浮世繪) 판화의 영향을 받으면서 밝은 화풍으로 바뀝니다.

1887년은 그가 파리 생활을 보내고 있을 때였죠.

위 그림의 주제이자 장소는 센느 강입니다. 센느 강은 당시 파리에서 상업, 여행, 유흥의 중심지였다고 합니다. 

하지만, 이 그림에서의 센느 강은 고흐가 도시 생활 속에서 찾는 휴식처로 느낀 것 같습니다.

도시생활이 고흐에게 잘 맞았던 것 같지는 않습니다. 1888년 2월에는 대도시 생활에 싫증을 느끼고, 프랑스 남부에 있는 아를로 옮깁니다.
