캐나다 국립미술관

캐다다 온타리오(Ontario) 주 오타와(Ottawa) 시에 위치한 캐나다 국립미술관입니다. 건축면적은 46,621 제곱미터이며, 미술 전시로 사용되는 공간은 12,400 제곱미터입니다.

1880년 협회가 설립되었으며, 새로운 발딩으로는 1988년에 이전하였습니다. 미술관 앞 광장에 서있는 거대한 거미 동상인 마망(Maman)이 인상적이죠.

93,000점 이상의 작품을 소장하고 있으며, 소장품은 유럽, 미주, 아시아, 캐나다 작가들의 작품 및 원주민들의 작품 등으로 구성되어 있습니다.

캐나다 작가의 작품(Canadian collection)으로는 18세기 부터 1990년대 까지의 작품을 소장하고 있으며, 풍경화가 톰 톰슨(Tom Thomson)의 북쪽 강(Northern River, 1914-1915)과 봄의 얼음(Spring Ice, 1915-1916) 등이 대표적입니다.

현대 예술작품(contemporary collection) 중에는 1999년 미술관에서 구입한 루이즈 부르주아(Louise Bourgeois)의 거대한 거미 동상 마망(Maman, 1999)이 유명합니다. 마망은 미술관 앞 광장에 설치되어 있습니다.

유럽 작품(European collection) 중에는 빈센트 반 고흐(Vincent van Gogh)의 아이리스( 
Iris, 1889), 클로드 모네(Claude Monet)의 워털루 다리(Waterloo Bridge, Sun Through Fog; 1903), 구스타프 클림트(Gustav Klimt)의 희망(Hope I, 1903) 등이 잘 알려져 있습니다. 

그 외에도 마티스를 좋아한다면, 앙리 마티스(Henri Matisse)의 노란 오달리스크(Yellow Odalisque, 1926)도 있고, 개인적으로는 카미유 피사로(Camille Pissarro)의 에라니의 건초 수확(Hay Harvest at Éragny, 1901)도 좋아합니다.

고흐의 한 송이 아이리스(The Iris)는 아이리스를 그린 두 번째 작품으로 아이리스들이 모두 다 활짝 피기 전에 먼저 핀 아이리스 한 송이를 집중해서 그린 것으로 추정됩니다. 배경의 풀들의 붓터치는 마치 풀들이 아이리스를 향하는 햇살처럼 느끼게 합니다.

모네의 워털루 연작 중 하나인 워털루 다리: 안개 속 태양(Waterloo Bridge: the Sun in a Fog, 1903)은 짙게 낀 안개 뒤로 보이는 태양의 모습을 잘 표현하고 있습니다.
