The Just-in-Case (JIC) Supply Chain is a logistics and inventory management strategy where companies maintain higher levels of raw materials and finished goods as a buffer against unforeseen supply chain disruptions or sudden spikes in demand. 

For decades, the global standard was the "Just-in-Time" (JIT) model, which strictly minimized inventory holding costs by producing and procuring goods exactly when needed. However, a series of unprecedented shocks—such as the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical conflicts (like the Red Sea shipping crisis), and climate-related canal bottlenecks—have exposed the extreme fragility of deeply optimized JIT systems. Having experienced massive factory shutdowns due to a single delayed shipment of components, businesses are now shifting to the JIC strategy. They are willingly absorbing higher warehousing costs to build "buffer stocks" and prevent devastating production halts or product stockouts. This term perfectly encapsulates the global economic paradigm shift from prioritizing pure cost efficiency to focusing on "supply chain resilience."
