흔히 SAAM이라고 부르는 스미소니엄 미술관은 미국 워싱턴 DC에 위치한 미술관으로 분관인 렌윅 미술관(Renwick Gallery)과 합하면 세계에서 가장 크고, 수집품이 많은 미술관 중 하나라고 합니다. 미술관에서 소장하고 있는 작품들의 예술가들만 7천명이 넘는다고 합니다.

수집품들이 시작된 것은 1829년이며, 스미소니언 협회(Smithsonian Institution)는 1846년 설립되었습니다.
