    타카타카는 로이 리히텐슈타인의 1962년 팝 아트 작품입니다. 리히텐슈타인은 잉크를 빽빽하게 칠하지 않고 점을 찍어 여백을 남기고 잔상 효과를 노리는 기법인 벤데이 도트(Ben-Day dots) 기법과 스토리 패널(story panel)을 사용했는데, 이는 만화책 스타일의 기법입니다.

    타카타카(Takka Takka)라는 제목은 기관총 소리를 묘사한 의성 그래픽(onomatopoeic graphics)에서 왔습니다.

    이 작품은 루드비히 박물관(Museum Ludwig)에서 소장하고 있습니다.

    전쟁 중 기관총 발사 장면을 묘사하고 있는 이 작품은 1962년 2월 찰튼 코믹스 그룹(Charlton Comics Group)에서 나온 만화책인 배틀필드 액션(Battlefield Action #40)에 나온 장면을 바탕으로 합니다. 원작은 일본 전투기에서 일본군이 기관총을 발사하고 있는 장면입니다.

    리히텐슈타인은 원작 그림을 재해석하여 작품을 완성했습니다. 기관총을 쏘고 있는 사람의 손이나, 헬멧, 일장기 등 인간적인 요소를 제거하였죠. 

    혹자는 이런 점을 들어서 의도적으로 인간적인 면을 제외시켜 전쟁을 있는 그대로 보여준다고 평하기도 하는데, 타카타카 외에 공중전을 다룬 또다른 작품들인 와암!( Whaam!, 1963), 오케이 핫샷, 오케이!(Okay Hot-Shot, Okay!, 1963) 등의 작품을 보면 꼭 그런 것만은 아니어 보입니다. 와암!에서는 전투기의 국적을 알 수 있도록 묘사하고 있고, 오케이 핫샷, 오케이!에서는 아예 조종사의 얼굴을 크게 묘사하고 있죠.

    하지만, 그가 전쟁 영웅들을 묘사한 것은 단지 형식적 이유일 뿐 심각한 정치적 요소로 받아들이지는 않는다고 말했던 것을 보면 작가가 군국주의나 정치적 의도를 가지고 완성한 작품은 아니라고 봐야겠죠.
