리쇼어링 (Reshoring)

리쇼어링(Reshoring)은 기업이 인건비 절감 등을 이유로 해외로 이전했던 생산, 제조, 조립 등의 시설을 다시 자국(본국)으로 되돌려오는 경영 및 물류 전략을 의미합니다. 과거 글로벌 기업들은 생산 단가를 낮추기 위해 '오프쇼어링(Offshoring)'을 통해 아시아 등지로 공장을 대거 이전했습니다. 그러나 코로나19 팬데믹, 미·중 무역 갈등, 지정학적 리스크 심화, 그리고 글로벌 공급망의 극심한 병목 현상을 겪으면서 해외 의존도가 높은 공급망의 치명적인 취약성이 드러났습니다. 

이에 따라 각국 정부와 글로벌 기업들은 단순히 '비용 절감'을 쫓기보다는 '공급망의 회복 탄력성(Resilience)'과 '안보'를 최우선 가치로 삼게 되었습니다. 리쇼어링을 단행함으로써 기업은 국제 물류 지연을 원천적으로 방지하고, 품질 관리를 강화하며, 시시각각 변하는 글로벌 경제 불확실성에 더욱 유연하고 안전하게 대처할 수 있는 자국 내 공급망을 구축하게 됩니다.

Reshoring

Reshoring is the business and supply chain strategy of bringing manufacturing, production, or assembly operations back to a company's home country from overseas. In the past, multinational companies heavily relied on "offshoring" to countries with lower labor costs to maximize profit margins. However, following the severe global supply chain bottlenecks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, escalating US-China trade tensions, and rising geopolitical risks, the vulnerabilities of deeply extended, foreign-dependent supply chains became glaringly apparent. 

Consequently, governments and corporations are shifting their primary focus from mere "cost reduction" to "supply chain resilience" and national security. By reshoring operations, companies aim to permanently bypass international ocean freight delays, enhance quality control, and build a highly robust domestic logistics network that can withstand sudden global macroeconomic shocks.
