스플릿쇼어링(Splitshoring)은 기업이 생산, 제조, 조립 등의 핵심 공급망을 단일 국가에 집중하지 않고 여러 지역으로 분산(Split)시키는 최신 물류 및 경영 전략입니다. 과거 글로벌 기업들은 원가를 낮추기 위해 인건비가 가장 저렴한 특정 국가에 생산을 몰아주는 '오프쇼어링(Offshoring)'을 선호했습니다. 그러나 글로벌 팬데믹, 미·중 무역 갈등, 운하 마비 등 예기치 못한 사태가 연달아 발생하며, 단일 국가에 의존하는 공급망이 얼마나 위험한지 뼈저리게 경험하게 되었습니다.

이에 대한 해결책으로 등장한 스플릿쇼어링은 '비용 절감'과 '공급망 안정성'이라는 두 마리 토끼를 잡기 위한 하이브리드 전략입니다. 예를 들어, 전체 생산 물량의 60%는 여전히 인건비가 저렴한 아시아 국가에 남겨두어 가격 경쟁력을 유지하고, 나머지 40%는 주요 소비 시장과 가까운 인접국(니어쇼어링)이나 정치적으로 안정적인 우방국(프렌드쇼어링)으로 이전하여 물류 리스크를 분산시킵니다. 최근 많은 다국적 기업들이 중국 외에 인도나 동남아시아에 추가로 생산 기지를 짓는 이른바 '차이나 플러스 원(China Plus One)' 전략이 스플릿쇼어링의 가장 대표적인 사례입니다. 

Splitshoring

Splitshoring is an international logistics and supply chain strategy where a company deliberately divides its manufacturing, sourcing, or assembly operations across multiple geographically diverse locations. In the past, multinational corporations heavily favored traditional "offshoring"—concentrating all production in a single, low-cost country to maximize profit margins. However, following severe disruptions caused by the global pandemic, geopolitical conflicts, and shipping canal blockages, companies realized the catastrophic risks of relying on a single node for their supply chain.

Splitshoring emerges as a hybrid solution designed to strike the perfect balance between cost efficiency and risk mitigation. Instead of relocating everything back home (which can be prohibitively expensive), a company might keep 60% of its production in a low-cost region to maintain competitive pricing. Simultaneously, it moves the remaining 40% to a nearby country (nearshoring) or a trusted ally nation (friendshoring) to ensure rapid delivery and protect against sudden logistics shocks. The widely adopted "China Plus One" strategy—where companies maintain operations in China but open parallel facilities in countries like India or Vietnam—is a prime, real-world example of splitshoring.
